What is Rum Punch?

Just as the name implies, Rum Punch describes a variety of cocktails made from a combination of juices and rum. The first cocktails were tried in England, and interestingly, the original cocktails did not contain rum. Instead, brandy or wine was used in making these cocktails. However, with the increased rum being imported into the region, people soon used rum to replace brandy and wine in making these cocktails.

Making Rum Punch

This drink contains five major ingredients:

1.     Rum and other spirits

Apart from drink, you can choose to add other spirits to your punch. However, the rum and all alcoholic spirits should account for three parts of the punch.

2.     Flavoured Syrup/Fruit Juice

Sugar used to be the sweetener used in the production process. Nowadays, most people prefer syrup, considering that flavored syrup allows you to add specialized flavors to your punch. Instead of syrup, some might also prefer to use fruit juice to sweeten the punch.

3.     High Acid Juices

These are added to the punch for balancing the sweet. Some of the juices used include lemon, lime, etc.

4.     Water/Brewed Tea

This is simply used to dilute the punch.
